If you haven’t been before and you are going to Paris in the near future… you MUST, and I really mean MUST go and visit Merci on boulevard Beaumarchais. I know it’s not exactly the newest news (it’s been open a couple of years now) but I’m still amazed every time I walk through the door via the little courtyard and into the vast shop. Their always changing displays around a theme, this time it was STACKED, is a good example on how shops should look! And their product selection is impeccable too. Oh, and not to forget that a lot of the money they make goes to Charity.

We have just received these amazing trays with drawing by textile designer Michael Angove, who worked for several fashion houses after his MA at the Royal College of Art. Made in Sweden by a company which has been making trays for over 50 years they are made from Scandinavian Birchwood and are so easy to look after, you can stick them in the dish washer. So, all in all a PROPER GOOD TRAY, don’t you think.
We have two designs available: Feathers & Spoons

Talking of wood, and this time we’re talking a good lump of wood.
Just before Christmas we got a delivery of the Messerblock by David Caspar Schäfer. The Messerblock, or for you non-German speakers knife block (ok ok, I’m sure you worked that one out anyway) is made from local German wood and as you can imagine, every one is different! Each Messerblock will keep two knives so for the real chef out there: You might need a few of them. But then again they look best in a group anyway so not really that much of a problem.

We do love a good shop-sign and since we based our very own Theo logo on the neon-signs you still find quite often in Germany and Austria, we have to tell you about the Buchstabenmuseum or Museum of rescued letters in Berlin. This museum has a large collection of abandoned / rescued letters which once used to hang above shops and factories. Luckily there is a real love for these signs which hopefully means that they will be looked after and appreciated for many more years. I can’t wait to have Theo in proper neon letters one day…it would be a dream come true!!
London based Illustrator and Graphic Designer Rebecca May recently visited the Museum and took this and many more great images. Thanks Rebecca.

We were a little sad when our first delivery of Battersea Blankets only got to us on the 22nd of December but, damn you snow, I think delayed deliveries were nothing extraordinary last Christmas. STILL, since my flight on Christmas Eve was cancelled and I spent Christmas in London, I had a lot of time testing out this beautiful and cosy Battersea Blanket designed by recent RCA graduate and super weaver Mary Penny. Made by one of the oldest weavers in Scotland from 100% Lambswool, this reversible blanket will surely keep you warm on those cold winter nights.

Ok, we’re done again here for this time. Since we found a lot of lovely goods at our recent trips to Cologne and Paris there will be a lot of new products coming to Theo in the next few months so make sure to check up on us once in a while.
Bye bye for now!
